CData named the only Challenger in 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Data Integration

CData Software says it has been positioned as a Challenger in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Data Integration Tools, and that it is the only vendor in that quadrant this year. The company links the placement to its push to give people, applications and AI agents access to enterprise data through a single data layer.
- CData Software says Gartner positioned it as a Challenger in the 2026 Magic Quadrant for Data Integration Tools.
- According to CData, it is the only vendor in the Challenger quadrant this year.
- The CData Connect AI Gateway extends the company's integration foundation to AI agents, with governed access and model routing.
- Recent additions include change data capture for SAP HANA, DB2 for i and SAP Gateway, built-in Git integration and a Context Engine.
- Gartner states that it does not endorse any vendor and that its research reflects opinion, not fact.
What CData announced
CData Software announced on Nov. 4, 2026 that Gartner positioned it as a Challenger in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Data Integration Tools. According to the company, it is the only vendor placed in the Challenger quadrant in this year's report. The Gartner report is dated November 2, 2026, and CData has published a link to the full document on its website.
CData Co-founder and CEO Amit Sharma tied the placement to the company's strategy. "We believe this placement reflects where we've put our effort: one data layer that works for people, applications and now AI agents, and now through our Connect AI Gateway," he said. He added that "Agents need the same data foundation that people and applications already rely on, which is why our AI gateway builds on it."
Gartner's own disclaimer, included in the release, states that the firm does not endorse any vendor and that its research publications consist of opinions and should not be construed as statements of fact.
One data layer built on connectivity, context and control
CData describes its platform as a unified data layer that lets people, applications and AI agents reach enterprise data across cloud and on-premises systems. The company argues that as organizations move AI initiatives from experimentation into production, they need more than a connection to a data source. AI systems need relevant information, an understanding of what it means, and the ability to work within policies and permissions.
According to CData, the platform addresses this through three requirements:
- Connectivity: access to data across hundreds of cloud and on-premises systems, supporting integration, replication and live data access.
- Context: enterprise data, documented business definitions and organizational knowledge that help AI systems interpret requests and produce relevant results.
- Control: governance and permissions intended to ensure people, applications and AI agents access data in line with organizational policies.
Extending integration to AI agents
CData Connect AI Gateway is the product that carries this foundation to AI. The company says the gateway acts as a control point for AI models, tools, data and actions, applying governed access while connecting agents to enterprise systems. It also supports model routing and access to the context agents need to work with business data. Because it builds on the connectivity used for integration and replication, organizations can extend existing data connections and governance to AI applications and agents, according to CData.
The company lists several recent additions. These include change data capture for SAP HANA, DB2 for i, and SAP Gateway, along with built-in Git integration. A Context Engine builds a governed graph of system context, business definitions and company knowledge so that AI agents interpret enterprise data the way teams mean it. The AI gateway routes each LLM request to the right model and each MCP call to the right tools and data.
CData also says it is expanding the ways developers and organizations can connect AI systems to enterprise data through published connectors and integrations for leading AI platforms. Its CData Labs unit provides benchmark data for enterprise AI, so teams can see how AI performs on real enterprise data.
What it means for buyers
For organizations evaluating data integration vendors, the announcement shows one supplier positioning classic integration and replication as the base for AI agent access. CData says its platform serves AI workloads for Anthropic, Databricks, Microsoft, Google, Palantir and more than 10,000 customers worldwide. Those figures are the company's own claims. Gartner cautions that its ratings should not be the sole basis for choosing a vendor, so buyers will want to read the full report and assess the products themselves.
