During their visit to China, Johnny Depp and the Kardashian family interacted with the PrimeBOT personal robot. Depp painted on the Q1 at a charity art event, while the Kardashian family brought the machine along for a family lunch and dancing.

Key points
  • Johnny Depp painted on the body of the PrimeBOT Q1 robot at a charity event in Shanghai.
  • Three days later, the Q1 imitated a tai chi master's movements in front of Tianhou Palace.
  • The Kardashian family spent time with the robot at lunch, while holding hands and dancing.
  • PrimeBOT unveiled the Q1 and T1 models in China on September 20.
  • The Q1 Explorer offers open hardware and software interfaces, an appearance-design platform and a skills store.

Depp used the robot as a canvas

During his visit to Shanghai, Johnny Depp attended a charity art event where he painted directly on the body of the PrimeBOT Q1 robot. The machine thus became a 3D canvas for creating art alongside local children.

Three days later, the same robot appeared in front of Tianhou Palace, where it imitated the movements of a tai chi master. PrimeBOT's statement presented the scene as a meeting of historic architecture, living tradition and embodied artificial intelligence.

The Kardashian family treated the machine as a family activity

The Kardashian family also brought the PrimeBOT along for lunch. The robot sat beside the children, walked hand in hand with them and then joined a dance battle. Khloé Kardashian later shared these moments with her followers.

According to the Chinese manufacturer, the two encounters went beyond technological interest and turned the robot into a lifestyle story. In the statement, Bowen Lyu, PrimeBOT's global brand director, said: “When a robot enters the home, its first identity is not a technology product, but a life companion.”

Lyu said development interfaces are being opened up to leave room for the user. In his view, the robot should not be a finished answer, but a tool that forms a unique relationship with its owner.

The Q1 and T1 launched in China in September

PrimeBOT unveiled the Q1 and T1 robots in Shanghai on September 20. At the same time, the company opened experience stores in seven Chinese cities.

According to the statement, the Q1 Explorer edition offers hardware and software interfaces, a platform for designing its external appearance and a skills store. Buyers therefore receive a customizable platform, which PrimeBOT describes as the “one thousand people, one thousand robots” experience.

PrimeBOT focuses on everyday use

The company views Depp's painting, the tai chi demonstration and the scenes with the Kardashian family as examples of its own vision. According to PrimeBOT, life, art and family are shared languages that can introduce robots outside a technological setting.

The company's goal is to present Chinese technology through real-life situations that people can experience. According to the statement, as the ecosystem expands, Chinese intelligent manufacturing can be showcased in a more tangible, vivid and human-centered way.
